Heart of Istria

The project Heart of Istria: Heritage and Arts, the development of cross – border tourist itinerary in urban and rural areas of Istria, was approved by INTERREG III A, in the frame of Neighbourhood Programme Slovenia – Hungary – Croatia.

Partners: The University of Primorska, Science and Research Centre of Koper and the County of Istria mutually submitted the application for the project, together with project partners the Town of Buzet, Municipalities of Koper, Izola and Piran.

Goals and descripton: The project intention is to encourage the completion of scientific and tourist evaluation of the cultural heritage of the Istrian peninsula by means of cross – border cooperation of all partner institutions. The project aims at not only to support scientific and tourist evaluation of cultural resources of Istria, but also to establish cross – border cultural itineraries taking into account every segment of the cultural heritage in order to promote and enhance tourist offer. The project is designed to strengthen tourist and cultural cohesion throughout the regions.

The project duration is twenty-three months. The Slovenian Applicant started implementing the project in October 2005 and Croatian Applicant in April 2006. The Slovene partners funded 398,130 euros and Croatian partners funded 100, 000 euros for the project. Partners’ institutions subsidised the project with 10% of total budget sum.

The project was chosen within the priority 1. Socio – economic cohesion and development of human resources and objective 1. 3. Joint cultural and tourist area.
